Missing Filling

Q: I've got a piece of filling missing but it doesn't hurt. What Should I do?

A: I'm really glad to hear that it isn't hurting yet. It's interesting to know that the most serious conditions are painless. By far, most teeth are lost with conditions that are completely painless. In fact, often when there is pain, it means that the nerve is still alive. I'm sure you'll be fine, but I'm always concerned when people think if it isn't hurting it can't be serious. Perhaps we should try to get you in sooner than later. In the meantime it might be safer to only chew on the other side of your mouth.
