Dental Exams
in Boulder, Colorado
Dr. Birnbach provides general dentistry and a variety of cosmetic dentistry procedures for all his patients in Boulder, Colorado, and the surrounding areas. To maintain healthy dental hygiene, you should consider the following general dentistry procedures:
Mercury-Free Fillings – Dental decay is caused by the build-up of bacteria and their excretions. At first plaque covers the teeth and if left too long, it turns into tartar, which has to be removed professionally. Decay is the acid in bacterial excretions burning through the enamel. When dental decay occurs the tooth should be repaired to prevent the spread of decay to the gums and even jawbone. Dr. Birnbach will remove the decayed portion and place a filling to prevent further damage. Of course, good dental hygiene is crucial on a daily basis, to prevent the same thing happening again.
Dental Bridges– If you have one or more missing teeth Dr. Birnbach can fill the gap in your smile with a dental bridge. This removes the self-consciousness associated with missing teeth and can improve overall dental health.
Crowns – When damage or decay has weakened the structure of your tooth a filling may be inadequate. Dr. Birnbach will place a crown over the entire tooth, restoring its appearance and strength.
Onlays - sometimes an onlay or partial crown can be used to restore a broken or decayed tooth to it's proper form and function. It is more conservative than a crown, allowing you to keep the healthy parts of your tooth intact.
Implants – Dental implants are another tooth replacement option. They replace the entire root and support a porcelain crown or a bridge. By filling the gap in the jawbone left by a missing tooth root, they promote healthy tissue and jawbone structure.
Gum Disease – The eventual build-up of plaque on teeth can destroy the gum tissue and lead to gum disease and bone loss. Routine general dentistry check-ups can help detect and prevent gum disease.
Cancer Screening – In additon to a physical and visual exam, Dr. Birnbach utilizes the Vizilite system, a quick, painless and non-invasive state of the art screening technique. If any suspicious lesions are found , you will be referred to an oral surgeon for further treatment. |
