Dental Implants

in Boulder, Colorado

Dental Implants
– If you have one or more missing teeth, dental implants are another tooth replacement option. If you live in the Boulder or Denver, Colorado area you could contact Dr. Birnbach, who has excellent experience in assessing your dental condition and recommending the best way forward.

Missing teeth can detract from your smile, making you self-conscious and inhibiting interactions with others.

Missing teeth can also affect your health. After time, the jawbone and gum tissue where teeth are missing may begin to deteriorate from disuse. Surrounding teeth may begin to drift, creating additional gaps in your smile and providing a haven for bacteria and tartar to build up.

Dental implants provide a permanent solution to one or more missing teeth by replacing both the visible and root portions of the tooth. During the procedure, an artificial tooth root made out of titanium is placed in the upper or lower jawbone. A healing period follows, during which the bone grows around the implant. A crown is then attached to the implant, matching the color and shape of your natural teeth.
  • Root Form Implants: These are the most common form of dental implants, involving the placement of the tube-shaped implant directly into the jawbone. If you do not have enough bone to anchor the implant a bone graft may be an option.

Because dental implants are attached to the jawbone they mimic your natural tooth root, keeping the jawbone and gum tissue from deteriorating. Implants create stronger support than other tooth replacement procedures.

Dental implants are an ideal option where surrounding teeth are healthy. They do not require attachment to other teeth, as bridges do. They are a one tooth solution for a one tooth problem. A traditional bridge requires the two neighboring teeth to be somewhat chiseled down and given crowns, whether they need it or not. That's how the artificial tooth in a bridge is attached to its neighbors. Implants are also a good option for replacing multiple teeth or denture sets. Dental implants can last a lifetime.
