Dental X-Rays

in Boulder, Colorado

X-Rays
– Dental X-rays are very important for younger people whose teeth are still coming in. Dental X-rays are often overlooked for adults but they are important for a variety of preventative and restorative reasons. Depending on your needs, X-Rays may be a part of your visit to Dr. Birnbach's general dentistry office in Boulder, Colorado.

Dental X-rays are one of the most important procedures in the maintenance of your dental health. Dr. Birnbach uses advanced digital dental X-ray technology to look at the underlying structures of your mouth area, jaw, teeth, and gums. Digital x-rays can reduce your exposture by up to 90% compared to conventional film based systems. Furthermore they are instantly available and can be magnified for greater visibility. Dental X-rays can detect:
  • Impacted Teeth
  • Crooked Teeth
  • Occlusion Problems
  • Dental Decay
  • Bone Loss
  • Tumors
  • Cysts
  • Cancer
There are many different factors that will determine how frequently you should have a dental X-ray such as age, sex, condition of your teeth, and gum condition. If you are a new patient in a dentist office, you will most likely need new X-rays.

In order to fully diagnose the state of your oral health and the condition of your teeth, Dr. Birnbach may need to perform two different types of dental X-rays:
  • Panoramic Radiograph – This dental X-ray takes a full picture of your entire mouth structure. This allows Dr. Birnbach to properly diagnose your bite and make sure your teeth come together properly.

  • Digital Dental X-rays – With the digital system, a small sensor is placed in your mouth which transfers the image instantly to the computer screen. Then X-rays are taken of either side of the mouth.
